MY FAVOURITE NOVEL

 MADOL DUWA

"Madol duwa" is my favorite book. It is a novel written by the well known writer Martin Wickramasinghe. It is an adventure story. This was published in 1947.And in 1976, Dr. Lester Jems  Piris made this novel in to a movie of the same name.

This is a very interesting story. This book has been translated into several languages. This novel is full of escapades of the rural boyhood. The main character of this story is Upali Giniwella. His closest friend is Jinna. Upali is a motherless child.His mother died when he was seven years old. He is looked after by his step mother. He doesn't like the environment at home. So he compels to engage in various escapades with his friends. At last he runs away from home with Jinna and cultivates a land. It is called "MADOL DUWA", and island. They work hard and become good citizens.

We can learn good qualities of Upali thruogh this novel. The most important lesson that is taught through this story is that anyone can make progress in his or her life through hard work.
