MY COUNTRY

 

My country is Sri Lanka. It  is a small island in the Indian Ocean. It is also called the pearl of the Indian ocean.

This is an agricultural country. Most of the people are farmers. Our staple food is rice. And also, there are several communities in my country. They are the Sinhalese, the Tamil.  the Muslims and the Burghers. The population of Sri Lanka is  about 20 millions.

We gained independence day in 1948. Now we are free nation. The new president of our country is Ranil Wickramasinghe. 

Our main imports are food, clothes and machinery. And our main exports are tea, rubber and coconut like that. Sri Jayawardhanapura kotte is the capital of Sri Lanka. Our commercial capital is Colombo. Piduruthalagala is the highest mountain and Mahaweli is the longest river in our country.

We have a tropical climate. Sri Lanka is famous throughout the world as a tourist paradise. There are many tourist attractions in here. Some of them are sacred places, water falls, ancient ruins, sanctuaries, sandy beaches and botanical gardens. And also, our country can see different cultural elements. The best example is Dalada perahara. It is held on month of August.
