A festival we celebrate

 VESAK FESTIVAL

Vesak festival is the main festival of Buddhist. Every year month of poya day we celebrate Vesak festival in a grand scale on this day. Vesak festival celebrated by highlighting 3 important events in the character of buddha. They are the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautham buddha.

A lot of Buddhist people observe sill on poya day. Apart from Sri Lanka, many Asian countries including Indian, Japan, Singapore and Tavian celebrate Vesak. Many religious activities are organized during this period in Sri Lanka such as a sill campaigns, bodhi pujas, dansals (coffee, tea, rice, noodles, ice cream), Vesak devotional songs, pandals and Vesak lanterns.

We decorate our houses and public places and arranged for various cultural events. This is the mine where we decorate for Vesak in the past years in our house.

I made all the Vesak lanterns in these photos. My mother and father help me for it. I like to make different Vesak lanterns and look beautiful with lights. That is the pleasure for me. I am learning to make different types of Vesak lanterns by watching you tube. I am happy about it.

Vesak day is the biggest day of the year and is celebrated by Buddhists all over the world.
